Last year’s runner-up, but has mixed his form since. Unplaced in the Grade 1 Arlington Million (2000m), bounced back with a second in a Group 3 race over 2000m back home before going for a break. Two runs back have been disappointing. Eighth in the Group 2 Prix d’Harcourt (2000m) at his comeback race and never a factor in the Group 1 APQEII Cup (2000m). Noted bad trackworker who prefers sting out of the ground. Chance only if he brings his A game back.

TRAINER:
-
PASCAL BARY (FRA)
Pascal Bary, 62, has trained at Chantilly outside Paris since 1981, having previously been assistant-trainer to the legendary French trainer Francois Boutin. Bary is amongst the top flight of French trainers, having won the Prix Du Jockey Club five times with Celtic Arms (1994), Ragmar (1996), Dream Well (1998), Sulamani (2002) and Blue Canari (2004). Bary also has three Breeders’ Cup wins to his credit, Miss Alleged (BC Turf), Domedriver and Six Perfections (both BC Mile). He trained the outstanding filly Divine Proportions to win five Group 1 races at age two and three in 2004/5, and sent another filly Natagora over to Newmarket to win the 2007 Cheveley Park Stakes as a two-year-old, only to return the following spring to win the 2008 renewal of the 1000 Guineas. Bary is of course known to local racegoers thanks to his 2009 SIA Cup victory with Gloria De Campeao. A year later, Bary saddled the Brazilian-bred stayer to a thrilling victory in the Group 1 Dubai World Cup at the horse’s third attempt. His runner in this year’s SIA Cup, Smoking Sun, is looking to go one better in the race this year, having been runner-up to Dan Excel in 2014.

JOCKEY:
-
STEPHANE PASQUIER (FRA)
Stephane Pasquier, 37, is one of the top French jockeys currently riding. He began as an apprentice to Robert Collet, who gave him his first ride in December 1994. He won his first Group 3 in May 2001, and his career progressed on an upward curve to the summit of a win in the 2006 Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe on Rail Link for trainer Andre Fabre. Pasquier was crowned French champion jockey in 2007 and received the "Cravache d'Or" following 185 wins in the season. Further success was to follow on the Criquette Head-Maarek-trained filly Special Duty on whom he won the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket in 2009 and then in 2010, both the English and French 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and Longchamp. In 2013, Pasquier enjoyed further Group 1 success, winning the Qatar Prix Lagardère with Karakontie and the Prix du Moulin and the Prix d'Ispahan with Maxios. Pasquier’s star mount in 2014 was Karakontie once again, on whom he won the French 2,000 Guineas, the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains and the Breeders’ Cup Mile in the silks of Smoking Sun’s connections, the Niarchos family. He finished tied for third in the 2014 French jockey’s championship with 115 winners. No stranger to Singapore where he rode from 2001 to 2002, riding 10 winners from 124 rides, Pasquier will aim to go one better in the SIA Cup after finishing second aboard Smoking Sun last year.
