KRISFLYER INTERNATIONAL SPRINT’S RUNNER & TEAM

  • RICH TAPESTRY
  • [Barrier No: 6]
  • Hong Kong globetrotter who won the Group 3 Mahab Al Shimaal (1200m) on Tapeta in Dubai and was runner-up to Sterling City in the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen (1200m) in 2014 before franking that form with a third place this year. Scored a history-making victory last October in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship (1200m) on dirt. Not just a dirt specialist, as he does have one win over turf in Hong Kong. Must be respected on recent form. A bit of give would suit him.

Michael Chang
  • TRAINER:
  • MICHAEL CHANG (HK)
Michael Chang, 53, served three years as an apprentice jockey with trainer David Wilson in the UK before returning to Hong Kong in the late 1980s to commence his career with the Club. He worked his way through the ranks before becoming assistant-trainer to Gary T K Ng. He then served Alex S T Wong, David Hayes and Sean Woods in the same capacity before taking out a full licence in the 2005/06 season. He notched a career best 40 wins in the 2012/13 season, 13 more than the previous term, and that campaign also brought his first Group race win thanks to Vital Flyer in the HKG3 Sha Tin Sprint Trophy, and Rich Tapestry took the HKG2 Sprint Cup later that term. He also notched a first win outside Hong Kong when Noble Alpha won the Macau HK Trophy in April, 2013. In 2013/14 season, Chang enjoyed success in Dubai as Rich Tapestry won the Group 3 Mahab Al Shimaal and was runner-up in the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen. The seven-year-old gelding brought Chang a history-making victory last October in the Group 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship, as he became the first Hong Kong-trained horse to win a Group 1 event in the United States. His KrisFlyer contender Rich Tapestry will be his first runner in Singapore.

Olivier Doleuze
  • JOCKEY:
  • OLIVIER DOLEUZE (FRA)
Olivier Doleuze, 43, is the son of Georges Doleuze, a former jockey turned trainer in France. Olivier’s career started in France where he was champion apprentice, riding principally for top French trainer Criquette Head-Maarek, for whom he won many races, including the French 2000 Guineas on Green Tune in 1994, and the Prix de Diane in 2000 aboard Egyptband. He also won the 2001 running of the KrisFlyer Sprint on Iron Mask for Head-Maarek, but finished unplaced aboard Daymarti in the SIA Cup the same year. Doleuze was already well known at Kranji as he rode in Singapore and Malaysia on several occasions between 1996 and 2003, but is probably better remembered for his prolific stint at Kranji in 2000 when he registered 23 wins from 106 rides, including the Group 1 Lion City Cup aboard The Jolly Roger for Mick Kent. Doleuze relocated to Hong Kong in 2001/02, where he has racked up more than 500 wins, enjoying his best season in 2006/07 when he rode 67 winners, the highlight being his victory on The Duke in the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile, a race he won again in 2007 and 2009 on the great Good Ba Ba. Other major Hong Kong wins include the HKG1 Chairman's Sprint Prize (2011 Dim Sum), the Hong Kong Classic Cup (2012 Zaidan), the Centenary Sprint Cup (2012 & 2013 Eagle Regiment), and in the 2013/14 season the Group 2 Jockey Club Mile, HKG2 Sha Tin Trophy and HKG3 National Day Cup on Gold-Fun. When Doleuze gets the chance to take hit-and-run overseas rides, he has often been right on target, notably the SIA Cup aboard Chinchon in 2012, the 2014 Group 3 Mahab Al Shimaal in Dubai and the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship in the United States on Rich Tapestry, his KrisFlyer ride.
